Cornwall seems to produce a race of extraordinary clergymen, whose eccentricities every now and then gain for them an celebrity. The latest specimen of the race is the rector of Landulph. This worthy seems to have come into collision with his parishioners, whom he styled " hogs," in several letters. He also brought actions against some of them, but in every case was not only defeated, but severely censured by the Judges into the bargain. Acting upon the advice of his late diocesan, Bishop Temple (Exeter), he left his parish, and remained away for a year ; but on Sunday, March 25, he xmexpectedly made his appearance at his church, and conducted divine service. His congregation, however, was of the most limited character, consisting only of his own two y children. His parishioners, on learning at the church, gates that he had returned, and was going to officiate, went home again, leaving him in solitary possession » of the church. Further developments are looked for. The search for Vulcan has been an astronomical disappointment. Writing on the subject, the Athenaeum says : — " The 22nd of March has come and gone, but nothing, so far as we have heard, was seen to transit the sun's disc excepting a number of small spots — phenomena which are well-known to be now in a period of increase. The existence of the so-called Vulcan still remains, therefore, a. matter of doubt.
