PRICE OF BREAD.

Sir, — I see by this morning's Herald 1 that the bakers of this town have again combined and raised the price of bread. For what reason ] Not because flour has '• advanced ! I have been a careful observer of the quotations in your telegrams, and have not noticed any very great difference in the price of flour. Even sitpposing there i was, each baker has at least a month's supply on hand before the rise, and why . should they at once rise the price of bread? They seem to understand each other so well, that as soon as an advance of a few : shillings in the ton takes place, up goes the price — nothing less than a penny for the 21b loaf will satisfy them. It is now quite time that something was done to "smash up " this combination. — I am &c, One of a large Family. Napier, June 1, 1877.
