The s.s. Rotorua arrived in the bay from Auckland and Sydney at 6.45 a.m. yesterday. She cleared Sydney Heads at S p.m. on the 16th ; passed North Cape at midnight on the 20bh, and arrived in Auckland at 7 p.m. on the 21sfc. She steamed from Auckland again at 5 p.m. on the 22nd, and arrived here as abos r e. From Sydney to Auckland she encountered very strong westerly winds, with very heavy sea. At 6 a.m. on the ISth a strong N. E. gale set in, with a dense fog ; it was found necessary to " slow down" the engines from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. ; at 3 p.m. the wind shifted round to the W.N.W., still blowing hard. In spite, however, of these drawbacks, the Rotorua made the passage from Sydney in the particularly fast time of four days and twenty-two hours. From Auckland to this port the weather was all that could be desired, the winds light and variable. The Rotorua steamed for Wellington and Southern ports at noon yesterday. The original Georgia Minstrels were passengers by "her ; there" were also two or three other jiussengers, whose names we were unable to obtain. We will endeavor to give a correct list in to-morrow's issue. Throughout the whole of yesterday there was an exceptionally heavy sea running in the bay. The steam launch Bella in coming in from the Rotorua shipped a huge green sea, which broke right over her stern, and swept the length of her deck. Mr Mabbett, who was steering at the time, only escaped being swept overboard by clinging to the tiller. The Bella, however, proved herself 3. good little sea boat, and got inside without injury. A schooner, which was made out to be the Acadia from Mercury Bay, sailed into the bay early yesterday morning. No communication was held with her during the day. The s.s. Rangatira had not put in an appearance at the port at 5 p.m. yesterday. The s.s. Result was to have left for Wairoa yesterday evening.
