KAIKORA RACES.

Tub Kaikora annual Steeplechase Meeting came off yesterday in Messrs Campbell, Hickey and Nicholson's paddock at Kaikora, and was largely attended, both by the settlers- in the neighborhood and also by visitors from Napier, the special train which left town at 9.30 being crowded with passengers. The weather was magnificent, and the face of the country presented a charming appearance, especially considering the time of year. The arrangements generally were very well carried out, under the superintendence of Mr J. J. Tye, honorary secretary, aiid the stewards. Mr H. J. Baker was the judge, and Mr Walker acted as starter. There was one matter which was the cause of much complaint, and which certainly should not occur again. We allude to the practice of making a charge each time visitors entered the gates, there being one gate at the railway side of the paddock, and another at the opposite end. There were no disturbances of any kind during the day. A neat and commodious grand stand was erected, and Avas extensively patronised.
