THE CLIVE-SQUARE CRICKET GROUND.

Sic, — 111 accordance with a request from many members that I should endeavor, as far as possible, on behalf of the above club, to induce the public to desist from making a pathway through that portion of Clive Square which has been fenced in, I am of opinion that I cannot do better than address the public of Napier and well-wishers of cricket generally, through the columns of your widely spread journal. Perhaps a few particulars as to what has been done for the preparation of the ground and cost may be of interest : — The club, having received the sanction of the Corporation, has fenced in about 4.V by 21 chains, water has been laid on to the ground, and hose lias been purchased, long enough to throw water to the limit of the prepared ground. I need scarcely say that this has formed the largest item of the club expenditure, and but for which we should have a large balance to our credit. The total outlay when the contract is completed, will amount to £150. Such being the case, I think it devolves upon the club to use every moans in its power to see that this money shall not have been thrown away. Besides obtaining a practice ground for the club's use, it will be evident to all that that which before was a barren waste has been in a measure beautified, and if the public will only assist us in the first place, by keeping outside the fence themselves, and secondly, by keeping children and others from swinging upon the chain and passing through, they will be conferring a favor, not only upon the Napier Cricket Club, but also upon the town itself. As grass seed is just about to be sown, I would earnestly request all to help us in what we have done and are doing, by refraining from passing within thefenco. — Yours, A;e., A. Leslie Campbell, Hon. Sec, jS t .C.C.
