THE HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
Sir,—l can't see much ability in Mr Ormond's public transactions, though I confess there is much " shrewdness " in his mode of acquiring land and then assisting to found special settlements in its vicinity. HoAvever, opinions differ, and those who wish to think.that he has ability can do so, but I strongly object to any more high-handed proceedings on hia part; any attempts to dictate to the province over which he so long, in my opinion, misruled. If Aye have a Hospital Committee who think proper to offer some iriducements to persons to contribute towards so desirable an object, there should be no interference, no depreciating criticisms from Mr Ormond, particularly Avhen there are still some members on the committee Arho are foolish enough to inflict lasting injury on the hospital scheme by following the advice. If Mr Ormond's desire is to work things so as to get the poAver of appointing the managers into his own hands, it would be characteristic of the man, but highly undesirable, and on behalf of the public I say intolerable. Let the committee think of this and not be willing to act as mere machines. But I observe some person offered to bet me a sovereign, and Avhen I looked for his name I find there is none given, except one that is palpably untrue. A man who is reputed to have had a large number of eyes cannot be personated by one that has no eyes. But who is this "Argus?" Is he afraid or ashamed to sign his name ? And Avhat is the reason for either 1 The craven spirit in his last sentence would account for his being ashamed. If he thinks in fairness he shovild put his name to his letter he ought to do so ; and now before I take his money I call upon him to publish his name and address as a test of sincerity, and to show that he is not an impostor.—l am, &c, A Resident.
