Meanee, January 16, 1877. 50 FOR SALE. £flfe HniTE Imported Clydesdale PEDIGREE :— LOFTY was bred by Mr Vallance, of Great Hill, Lanarkshire, Scotland ; his sire, Clydesdale Tom, in 1859, at the Lanarkshire Farmers Society's Show of Entires, held at Hamilton, gained the premium of £40 j his dam, in 1856, at the Avondale Farmers Society's Show, gained the first prize for draught mares in 1861 ; at the same show, with Lofty at foot, gained the first prize for brood mares. Lofty, as a one-year-old, gained the first prize at Avondale ; when two years old he gained the first, and also the prize for the best of the horse kind, any age ; first prize at the Lanarkshire Society's Show at Hamilton, and first at the Glasgow Agricultural Society's Show for two-year-olds, and at the same show the following year he gained the first prize for three-year-olds. He has taken first prizes every time he has been shown in Scotland, with one exception, when he stood second to all Scotland at the Highland Agricultural Society's Show, held at Kelso. He gained three first prizes in succession at Oamaru, 1866 — 7 — B ; and was awarded the first prize, a gold medal, at Dunedin in January, 1869 ; first prize, a gold medal at Tokomairiro in December, 1869 ; first prize at the Taieri in December, 1869 ; first prize at Christchurch in November, 1870 ; and fir3t prize at Southbridge in January, 1871; first prize at Christchuroh in November, 1871 ; firßt prize in Wanganui, 1873-74-75-76, including Champion Prize, and firßt prize at Leitbfield. A yearling colt got by Lofty took first prize against all comers at the Canterbury Show of 1871. Lofty has never been beaten by any horse in New Zealand ; he has proved himself a sure foal getter, and his stock has been successful prize-takers at all the principal shows in Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. A RECENT Act of the General Assembly having granted 3£ acres of Land adjoining the Immigration Barracks as the site for a new Hospital in Napier, which is much required, there being want of space on the present ground, the Inhabitants of Hawke's Bay are requested by the Committee to subßcribe to so desirable an object. The Maoris of Hawke's Bay are particularly invited to join in this movement, which applies to all alike, and it is hoped that it may lead to increased friendly feeliag between the two races. The Maoris are requested to give land instead of money, as it will perpetuate their names in the future, and show posterity how the aboriginal natives of the country and the European settlers progressed together. It is proposed that any person giving £100 or more in money, or an equivalent in hind, shall becomo a Life Governor.
