WAIROA.
fFKOM OUE OTTBT COBRBSPOIfDBKT.I Dec. 1, 1870. Tee week has been barren of incident at Clyde, with tbe exception perhaps of the arrival of Captain Richardson, A.C., from Tauranga, on Tuesday last, and the bolting and consequent apprehension of one of the newly arrived Waikare Moana would-be friendlier, who was found to have some 150 rifle caps in his possession when captured. Mr. Bell's flax mill at Mohnka has been partially destroyed by Ore. I heard of the occurrence last mail, but disbelieved it ; incendiarism is suspected, by whom it is difficult to imagine, the natives in the neighbourhood being (unless I am misinformed) part owners in the concern. At any rate it is an unfortunate occurrence in these not over brisk times. Captain Deighton, sometime of Defence Force, Wanganui, and since couspicuous for his gallant and ill-requited services on this coast, has received the first I have seen of the New Zealand medal. It is well enough perhaps as a work of art ; but, calling to mind Biggs' days, and the opening campaign at Morgan's, on the East Coast, it seems a poor recompense for much of a life's service. At the R. M. Court, on Monday last, before Dr. Ormond, two cases occupied the attention of the Bench — Mee (A.C.J v Mayo and Bnrtlclt v. Perehapa. The former was a disputed claim of ownership of a horse decided in favor of defendant, and the latter of like nature, was postponed for further evidence. I did think of reporting the former, but if it interested your readers as much as it did me I should receive no thanks, and with regard to the latter, the amount of verbiage tlie Magistrate had to wade through in search of evidence was distressing, and not worthy of repetition.
