Inland Services. — The Rev. R. Taylor has requested us to intimate that he will hold service at Wallingford, at 11 a.m., and Porangahau, at 3 p.m., on Sunday the 30th instant. The Chinese Giant, who ia 12 feet high, and for whose accommodation there is no room in Auckland large enough, arrived in that city per City of Melbourne, and ib creating ho small sensation. The Cut op Melbourne's arrival was most eagerly looked for in Auckland. As she entered the harbour there were thousands of! persons on the wharf eager to know what the news was. Later, the newspaper offices were besieged by people for extras. Rifle Match. — We hear that a rifle match between the Wellington and Napier Rifle Clubs is on the lapis — a challenge having been forwarded by the latter to the former to fire an equal number of twelve, the match to come off about the ninth of next month. Great credit is due to the Napier Club for their plucky conduct, especially after the thrashing they got last year, and we wish them every success in the coming contest. The Volunteer Rifle Band will, weather permitting, perform in Clive Square on the afternoon of Saturday next, nt 5 o'clock. Volunteer Picnic. — We understand that a picnic will be given on the race course, on the Ist of November, by the Napier Volunteer Rifle Company. The band will be in attendance, and the programme will consiat of rural sports, dance music, &c, We trust the weather will be fine, as, if so, what between the pienio of the Artillery and of the Volunteers, and the cricket match, the first will be a great day for pleasure seekers.
