: , : ■ Monday, October 17. ' Sin George Grey ; landed and walked up 1 Quuen-street. He spoke to many friends, 1 and looks well and stout. He said it was ( the happiest day of his life when he saw ] Auckland again. Sir George left for the Kawau by the l steamer in the evening. ' ' There was immense excitement in Auck- 1 land. 2,000 people were on the wharf, and J the newspaper offices were besieged for extras. . . < Chang, the Chinese Giant, with his wife 1 and child, has arrived. * < Sir George Grey expressed satisfaction ' with the San Francisco route, and said the ' English Pacific mail route would not proceed. He believed all Europe would be ' invoked in the war by this time. '
