The American Glassblowebs continm to give their pleasing and instructive enter tainment to very good and appreciativi audiences. Glass, since the arrival of Mr Woodroffe, has assumed a totally differen aspect. It bas been seen to possess pro perties of whicb, previously, no one dreamt and it has become invested with a higl degree of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Wood* rofie seem able to do anything they pleasi with it — blow it into any conceivabl shape and form — and tli^^people seen never tired of looking at-nHta. Thi evening, a special prize is to be given fo the best conundrum, and one for the worst upon the subject of the model stean engine. A committee will decide on thi merits of the various conundrums sub milted, and there, will, no doubt, be some fun. To-morrow, as will be seen, then is to be a midi-day performance ; and, or Saturday week," an exhibition is intended to be given at Waipawa. Ship- Building in Hawke's Bay.— One of our enterprising settlers, Mr. M Hudson, of Wallingford, has just completed the building of a smart little schooner, the Mary Ann Hudson, which has been successfully launched at Porangahau, and is intended as a regular trader between Port Ahuriri and Black Head. Her dimensions are as follows: — 48 feet long, with a beam of 13 feet inches, and a depth of hold of 4 feet ten inches. She is very stronglybuilt of Remu and Black Mairi, and is copper fastened. She will leave Porangahau for Napier towards the end of this month, and is intended to be a regular trader. Messrs. Stuart and Co., we believe, will be tbe agents at Port Ahuriri. The Petty Sessions Court sits at Meanee on Thursday next. We have not heard of any case of importance likely to come on for hearing. A Native died in the hospital a few days ago, not so much, if at all, from tbe disease under which he suffered, as from a fixed presentiment that he would die, and that it was utterly useless on his part to make any attempt to prolong life ; in consequence of which he utterly refused to take any kind of sustenance and gradually sank from exhaustion. Trap Accident. — Last evening, at a late hour, one of the Spit teams, with trap, bolted round tbe Post Oifice corner and rushed down tbe lane past the church gate, and was only brought up when it reached the turnstile in the middle. Although the shock of being stopped thus summarily was considerable, there did not seem to have been much damage done. Napier Rifle Volunteers. — The inspection parade of this corps is ordered for Monday next, at 7 o'clock. District Highways Act. — We hear that it is contemplated to proclaim the Meanee, Papakura, and other districts near Napier, as districts within tbe meaning of the District Highways Act, whicb will give tbe settlers power to tax themselves for tbe improvement of bye-roads, and will entitle them to some assistance under the financial scheme of the General Government. Tenders are invited by the Government for erecting a small bridge on the roud from Waipawa to Hampden, near Waldron's. Mr. Edward Lyndon will sell, to-mor-row (Saturday) a quantity of cured hams and other colonial produce. — See advertisement. Horticultural Exhibition. — The Hawke's Bay Horticultural Society, of which nothing has been beard for some time, has, we are glad to perceive, shown signs of renewed activity. The first show of the season, of flowers, fruit, and vegetables, has been announced to be held in the Oddfellows* Hall, on the 29th November; and the second on the 4th April. Botb, we trust, will be liberally supported by persons in a position to exhibit, as well as by tbe public generally. Exhibitions of this kind are most beneficial to a young community, as giving a wholesome impetus to the growth of choice flowers, fruit, and vegetables. Rechabites. — It will be seen, from advertisement, that a soiree will be held in the Council Chamber, on tbe evening of Thursday next, 13th inst., to celebrate the opening of the Hope of Napier Tent of the Independent Order of JReehabites.
