The Mail from England via Suez reached Napier on the afternoon of Friday last, by the s.s. Storm Bird. Painful Accident. — On Sunday last, as Mr. James Topping was crossing the Meanee Bridge on horseback, his horse swerved just as he was leaving the bridge and struck the rider's leg so violently against the angle of the rail as to cause a severe fracture just below the knee and a very painful laceration of the limb. The sufiorer was brought to town, and is, we believe, doing as well as could be expected under such circumstances. The Outgoing English Mail. —We have been requested by the Chief Postmaster to notify that a mail via San Francisco und via Suez and Marseilles will be made up for despatch per p.s. Luna, which vessel will leave for Wellington to-day at 2 o'clock — so that the mail will probably close at noon. Also, that a supplementary mail by the San Francisco route will be forwarded by any vessel that may leave here for Auckland direct any time between this and the 3rd July. Waikaremoana. — Despatches from Mr. Hamlin have been received by the General GoverniLent agent. The native troops under Hamlin and Witty were engaged in destroying ail the pahs and cultivations on the lake. The amount of food taken possession of is represented to be sufficient to support 1000 men for twelve months. The whaleboat built by Colonel Herrick, and which the Hau Haus had taken possession of, has been re-captured, together with all the canoes on the lake. Tbe natives have not yet come in, having retired to tho bush in the vicinity, but all their settlements are in the hands of the friendly natives, and it is quite expected that most of the enemy will speedily lay down their arms.
