Singleton Rochfoht Esq., the newly appointed K.M., took his seat on the Bench, for the first time, on Tuesday last. Assisted Passages. — It would appear, from a notice in another column, that stringent measures are about to be taken to get in arrears. The English Mail may be expected to arrive this day, by the s.s. Storm Bird, which left Wellington at noon yesterday for this port. The Luna is expected to leave Wellington for Napier on Sunday next, and return on Monday with the Hon. 11. Russell and His Honor the Superintendent. Mu. Edward Lyndon will sell, this day, furniture, horses, &c., the property of Mr. Mathew Hill; and, to-morrow, hams, bacon; &c. — See advertisements. The Outgoing Mail via Suez (which does not leave Wellington till the 17th prox.,) will be despatched by the return trip of the Storm Bird to that city — that is to say, about three weeks before the departure of the mail steamer ! The Late Joseph Gill. — The remains of this old and much respected resident in Napier were yesterday conveyed to their last resting place — the brethren of the Masonic Lodge, of which deceased was a member, attending in full regalia, as well as a large number of his fellow townsmen and friends. Tub Rev. Robert Taylor of Waipukurau preached on Sunday last, twice in St. Paul's Church, Napier, and once at Meanee, to large audiences. He subsequently conducted service in the Port church and Presbyterian school-house, at which largo numbei'3 were present. Mr. Taylor belongs to one of the Methodist bodies, and is a preacher of much power and fluency.
