Arrival of the s.s. lord Ashley. The Lord Ashley left Auckland on the 12th, rounded Cape Colville at 7.30 p.m. same day, sighted White Island on the morning of the 13th, passed East Cape the same morning, and arrived here at mid-day of Saturday last, after a very fair passage, having experienced fetrong winds from the S.E. as far as Portland Island, from thence fine clear weather, Arrival of the s.s. St. Kilda. The Colonial Government steamer St. Kilda, Barnard, left Napier at 8 a.m. on Sun* day, Jst May, for several plaoea on the East Coast, with provisions, &c. Arrived at Poverty Bay at 10 p.m. same day with fine weather. Left Poverty Bay at 9.30 next morning, and arrived at Opotiki at noon on the 3rd. Left there at 3 p.m. same day, and arrived at Maketu at 11 pm. Left there on the 4th, and arrived at Tauranga a few hours afterwards. At fi p.m. same day a strong galo from the N.E. set in, and had to put back to Tauranga. Left again at 7 a.m. on the 9th, arriving at Opotiki at' 3 a.m. on the 10th, hut the surf was too high to land. Left ou the 11th, and arrived at Kawa Kawa on the 12th, experiencing strong gales from S.E. and thick nasty weather. Left there at 1 p.m. on the 13th, arriving at Poverty Bay on the 14th. Left there and arrived in the roadstead on Saturday at 9.30 p.m. Captain Barnard reports sighting a fore-and-aft schooner off Portland Island, and a topsail schooner off East Cape. The St. Kilda took in a quantity of provisipna and ooals last Sunday, and left for Wairoa yesterday morning early. Arrival of the s.s. Star of the South. The s.s. Star of the South, Bendall, master, left Auckland at 9 p.m. on Friday last, the 13th. Experienced light head winds and heavy N..E, swell across the Bay of Plenty,

and rounded East Cape at 11 p.m. on Saturday ; from tbeuce to Portland Island fresh N.E. winds. Passed through Portland Island passage at noon on Saturday, and an* chored at the Mahia Bluff at 1.30 p.m. the same day. Landed three Bay of Islands na- j tiyes, on a visit to the Mahia. Also landed 12 tons of oil casks for Mr. Watt. At 11 p.m. a strong north east gale having sprung up, weighed anchor, and proceeded towards Ahuriri under easy steam, arriving in the roadstead at daylight yesterday, and moored- at the new wharf shortly afterwards. Soon after 10 a.m. she broke adrift from her moorings, and was carried by the current (then very Btrong ebb)>to : the Flagstaff point, where she grounded, and lay about four hours, We ; understand, that Bhe is not leaking, and therefore think the damage must be but Blight. At the time of the steamer breaking away, some of the crew were on the wharf, and the captain was unfortunately at the Customs entering his ship. A survey will probably bo held to-day. The Star will, in all probability, clear at the Customs to-day for Auckland with a cargo of live stock.
