j -y AcciDENT.-r-Yesterday, as a cart belonging, to the liawke's Bay Boiling-down . Ctotapany was descending' Shakespeare road frroni the old Union Bank in the direction o,f the Government buildings, the horse (apparently unaccustomed to the breeching) became unmanageable and finally toppled over into the deep ravine on the left, rolling to the bottom. Fortunately the driver got put, in time, unhurfc ; and the damage was not so great as might fairly have been anticipated. Tabanaki.— A correspondent writes under date, Auckland, April 21 : — The s.s. . JCeera arrived from Taranaki and Wanganui this morning (cargo will be found elsewhere). The Taranaki Herald of the 20th contains Mr. Sewell's address to the electors of Omata. The nomination comes offon the 22nd (to-morrow). The candidates now in the field are. Sewell, the Superintendent, (F. A. Carrington), and B. Carthew. It appears to be a false report that rebels had -been seen near Wailti. The English Telegrams published in a second edition to last Herald came to hand very slowly, owing to some part of the line working badly. Commenced before 1 p.m., the telegram dragged its weary length till half-past eight, and thus wasted nearly a whole day. Unfortunately, the information conveyed is far short of , being worth the money and labor expended upon it — not a word being said about the doings of the New Zealand Commissioners, who bad been at home a month, while the information as to the price of flax is meagre and unsatisfactory. One piece of really good news is that another rise has taken place in the value of wool.
