There has been increased activity in tho horse market, although those brought forward were mostly of an inferior stamp. At the Durham Yards, on Saturday, a larger number than usual changed hands ; although in many instances sales were difficult to effect vendors of second rate stock frequently expecting extreme prioes. Hacks sold from £10 ss. to £12 10s. each ; light draught horses, from £15 7a. Gd. to £22 10a. each. The cattle market has been well supplied during the last week, and a large number havechanged hands. At the Junction Yards, on Tuesday, dairy cows were in moderate supply ; good animals, at calving, sold readily at an advance price, while inferior were somewhat difficult to place. Tho Btore stock offered, showing superior breeding, were readily competed for, and obtained an advance price. There was a short muster of fat beasts ; some very prime bullocks, heavy weights, were brought forward, and met keen competition. Sheep were in moderate supply, and those of good quality were light weights, but an advance on last week's prices was obtained for well-conditioned ; while for inferior animals last quotations were sustained. Pigs were again unequal to requirements, and sold readily at high figures. The following is a list of prices :— Dairy cows, near calving, from £12 to £15 55. ; calves, from £3 to £3 10s. ; yearlings, from £4 ss. to £5 ; one-and-a-half year old heifers, £5 12s. Gd. to £5 17s. 6d. ; one- and-a-half year old steers, £5 12s. 6il. to £6 ; two year old steers, £6 7s. 6d. to £7 10s. ; three year old steers, £8 2s. 6d. to £8 12h. 6d, Beef averaged about 335. per lOOlbs. Sheep.-— Half-breds sold from 12s. Cd. to 16s. 9d. ; merinos, from 6s. 9d. to Ba. 9J. ; lambs from 7s. to 9a. each.
