0?BOM A CORIESPONDBNX.) Turanganui, Poverty Bay, Jan. 31, 1870. I have been requested to forward you the particulars of a pubic meeting, held at the "Albion" Hotel, Turanganui, on tbe 29th January, to considjr the best steps to be taken to obtain the annexation of the District of Poverty Bay to the Province of Hawke's Bay. Mr. Evans haung been called to the chair, it was proposed by Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Poynter, — That a Memorial be sent to the Government, praying them that the District of Poverty Bay be annexed to the Province of Hawke's Bay, for the following reasons :— Ist. That Poverty Bay is geographically in Hawke's Bay. 2nd. That the Poverty Bay settlers are. fox* the most part, from Hawke'a Bay, and that their interests, chiefly, lie in that direction. 3rd. That the Poverty Bay settlers have always obtained assistance from Hawke's Bay, whenever required, which they have" never had from Auckland. (Proposition carried unanimously.) Proposed by Mr. Johnson, and seconded by Mr. King, that— A Committee be formed for the purpose of drawing up the Memorial, to consist of the following gentlemen : — Mr. Johnson, Major Westrup, Captain Read, Mr. Hardy, and Mr. Harris. (Proposition carried unanimously.) Proposed by Major Westrup, and seconded by Mr. Hardy, that — Two gentlemen be named at a future time, to go to Wellington, prior to the nest sitting of the Assembly, for the purpose of presenting the Memorial. (Proposition carried unanimously.) This concluded the business of the evening.
