N.Z.S.N. Co.'s s.s. Wellington.

The Wellington, hence to Auckland, made rather a long passage, partly owing to a strong westerly breeze encountered across the Bay of Plenty, and partly to the vessel's bottom being foul. She left ou Wednesday at G p.m., and arrived on Friday at 3 p m. When off Hawke's Bay she passed through thousands of floating trees, evidently carried down by river freshets. When in Auckland the Wellington was hove down at the North Shore, but, owing to the tides being neap, only a plate and a half deep could be cleaned. She left for Napier on Wednesday at 3 p. m., and had a heavy northerly s\vell, without wind, across the Bay of Plenty, and fine weather generally. Dropped anchor at 7 a.m. on Friday, having made the run in 89 hours. Off Tologa Bay passed a canoe floating at sea. The Countess of Kin tore, ship, for London, was hauling into the stream as the Wellington left. H.M.S. Virago had arrived in Auckland and H.M.S. Challenger and H.M. ram Blanche were, entering the harbour as the Wellington left. The Star of the South, hence on Sunday night via Mahia, was seen by the Wellington in the Frith of the Thames, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Schooner Success. The favourite clipper schooner Success, Fletoher, master, left the Port of Napier for

Cafie Turuagain, on the lOfch inst, with «v. light N.W. wind, and arrived of Porangab.au last Tuesday evening, with a strong N.E. breeze. Brought up oS St. Hill and Drury'a place on Wednesday morning, but could not land cargo until 3 p.m., owing to the heavy surf. Worked all nex t day, Thursday, up- till 6 p.m., when it came on to blow from the W.S.W., inoreasinj? during tha AUgßf into a gale. On Friday, could do nothing, owing to the heavy gale: blowing-priding; with two anchors, and .45 fathoms on the port cable, and 30 fathoms on the" starboard. On Saturday morning, the gale increasing to a perfect hurricane; gave her the whole ohaio, 60 fathoms on the port; and 45 on the starboard. Towards noon the. wind ' gradually lulled, veering more to the south-west, and at 9 p.m. it hauled, to the S. by X., when tripped up both anchors, and made sail for Napier roadstead ; at daylight was |>ff Bare Island, and arrived in the roadstead at 6 p.m. on Sunday, entering the Iron JPot. at once. .--
