Sir Trevor Chute. — Tho Wellington Evening Post learns that ** A letter from England received by the mail says that Major-General Sir Trevor Chute has been recalled from the command of her Majesty's forces ■in Australia, bufc neither mentions his nor assigns any reason for the recall. Connecting it, however, with the conduct of the Colonial Office towards us, it is natural to believe thafc General Chute has displayed too much sympathy with New Zoaland to be left in its vicinity, now that Earl Granville has definitely made up his mind to abandon us to our fate."

Mr M'Lean's visit to Ohinemuri.— The Hon. D. M'Lean returned from the Thames on Saturday afternoon. We understand thafc the result of the interview of the honorable gentleman with the natives as to the opening of Ohinemuri was such as to be regarded as satisfactory. Te Hira, instead of retiring into the bush, to avoid interviews with Europeans, as he has done on some former occasions, sent messages to Mr. M'Lean to come up near his place, and hold a meeting there ;, and, generally, tho disposition shown by. him during the meeting was better than could have been expected aa a beginning.
