REMOVAL OF THE TROOPS.

, In the latest telegrams by the English * mail, there is a statement that a despatch from Earl Granville to Sir George Bowen ; says that tho Imperial Government adheres to its announced policy, and that , the 18th Regiment is to be removed from i this colony without delay. We (Southern Cross) understand that ■ there is no room for doubt as to the cor- '■ rectness of the telegraphic statement. ■ His Excellency the Governor has, we believe, not received the despatch as yet ; 1 the Hero not having brought the Marseilles route bag for his Excellency. ' But his Excellency repeived yesterday, by the Hero, a telegram from the Hon. J. Yogel, in Melbourne ; and .that telegram states '< that Mr. Vogel' -had" seen V copy of. the 1 despatch to his Excellency, and also that * the instructions received bj' - ' the General, as to the removal of the troops, " admit of • no question." i. Speaking of the withdrawal of this regi- < ment, the, Sydney Morning Herald says; . — " The last regiment has been recalled from New Zealand, but at a time when the native difficulty is for the present sub- ' dued. A great increase of population not 1 far from the neighbourhoods where the native power has been formidable may 1 ultimately settle the controversy, but it will never be forgotten that deliverance from the native musket results from a • course of events in which the British Government had no share, and from which it will derive no honor. They deserted the colony in the hour of its distress, but 1 Providence has not forsaken it."
