DEPARTURES.

OCTOBEB 13- -Star of the South, s.s., Bendall, for Auckland. The regular trading brigantine Esther left Wellington for this port on Friday last, the Bth instant, at 6*30 a.m. ; rounded Cape Palliser at midnight, at 10 p.m. on the 9th came to anchor at Castle Point, discharged 15 tons cargo ; left again at 2 p.m. on the 10th, arrived at Pourerere at 1 p.m. on the lltb, discharged cargo ; left again at 4 p.m., and arrived here at 11 a.m. on Tuesday last. Had fresh westerly winds and fine weather on the passage. She brought a full cargo of general merchandise, and will leave again about Saturday next for Wellington via the Coast. We have to thank Capt, Campbell for an Independent of the 7th. The fast-sailing cutter Mahia arrived here from Wairoa, on Tuesday last, after a fair passage, having called at Waihiki, Waikari, and Moeangiangi, partly loaded with New Zealand produce, The Government surveying schooner Edith, lately purchased in Auckland for the Colonial Government of New Zealand, will, after being repaired, proceed to this port with the Napier portion of papers of the last English mail. This schooner, we hear, is a perfect model of beauty, and a capital vessel for hauling off a lee shore, whioh she may have many times to do whilst surveying along the Coast. The ship Electra arrived in Wellington on Tuesday last, after a fair passage of 95 days from London. The good barque R. T. Turnbull, ought now to be making her appearance, having been out 103 days. Consignees will be anxiously looking out for their seasonable stock of goods. One of the N.Z.S.N. Co.'s s.s., ought to make an appearance about tho 18 th instant, (Monday next,) going North. Owing to press of business at Auckland, and their inability to satisfy the merchants, &0., at the Thames, the latter place has been declared a port of entry. The wharf at the entranoe is going on very slowly ; indeed, at the present rate of prooeedure it is not likely to be finished this year. The favorite cattle steamer Star of the South left Auckland on the 9th at 10 p.m. for this port ; experienced fine weather, and arrived at Tauranga at 2.30 p.m. on the 10th ; embarked about 50 of the Armed Constabulary force, under Capt M'Donnell, and left Tauranga at 9 p.m. the same evening ; from thence experienced strong northerly winds and heavy rain, with thick weather, until passing East Cape, whioh was rounded at 9 a.m. on the 11th; from thence to Poverty Bay, strong westerly winds and fine weather, arriving there at 8 o'clock, the same night. Landed Capt. M'Donnell and tho Armed Constabulary force, left again at 9.30 p.m., arriving in the Iron pot at 9 a.m. on Tuesday last. The Star left yesterday for AuoMaud, with a oargo of sheep. j
