AUCKLAND TELEGRAMS.
Auckland, September 20. A destructive fire occurred to-day at 3 o'clock in Messrs. Quick's coach factory, Elliott street. £6000 worth of property was destroyed, including a large building, erected at a cost of £2300, and a great quantity of carriage material, amongst which were two valuable carriage bodies, and 500 tons of forage. The 1 whole was totally uninsured. The fire originated in a top loft, caused, it is supposed, by the spontaneous heating of a quantity of wet hay. Mr. H. Quick had been in the building only five minutes before the fire broke out. Mr. Carleton writes a letter in to-day's Cross, in which he affects a kind of virtuous dignity. He gets another castigation in the leader. The Superiniendency election is likely to be postponed a couple of weeks beyond the usual date. . . , Major Heaphy addresses his constituents on Wednesday. In addition to the gentlemen who have already announced themselves as candidates in the coming elections, the following^ are likely to come out : — Messrs. W. Rowe, " T. B. Hill, F. Kissling, R. Wood, Colonel Nation, Major Stevens, J. Sheean, J. M. Murray, Major Stoney, Hon. H. Chamberlin. O'Connor, the alleged Fenian, has determined to take legal proceedings against the newspapers and several private parties, for designating him a Fenian and accusing him of disloyalty. The p.s. Royal Alfred brought up about 4000 ounces of gold from the Thames on Saturday evening, the 18th inst. The following are the latest quotations on the Thames Stock Exchange, being those in the Advertiser of the 20th : Berkeley Castle, buyers at £1 10s., sold at £l 155. ; Pride of Karaka, sellers at £2 ; Junction, do., £12 ; City of Glasgow, do., £9 10s. ; Inverness, do., ..£3 10s. ; Scandinavian, do. (equal half-share), £200 ; All Nations, do., £16 ; Hidden. Treasure, do., 95. ; Little Nell, do., £2 155. ; Fourth of July, do., £2; Kelly's, do., £4 55.; Moanataiari, do., £13; Magenta, do., 10s.; Crown, do., (equal quarter share,) £275.
