SUMMARY.

London, July 16. Discount 3 per cent. Consols — for

money 92$ to 93 ; for account, 93 to 935. The third series of Liverpool wool sales of East India commenced on the 28th ult. The arrivals for the third series of London sales are now 135,923 bales. The market is slightly animated and prices Ikm. Australian copper is quoted at £78. The Australian June mails via Marseilles were delivered on the 12th July. The Queen is at Windsor. The court will shortly go to Osborue House ,* thence to Balmoral. The Viceroy of Egypt arrived in London on the 22nd June, and proceeded at once to Buckingham Palace, which had been prepared for his reception. His visit extended to the Ist July, and, during his stay, there were great festivities on an extensive scale. The Canadian Dominion Parliament was prorogued at Otawa on the 22nd June. The House of Commons has nominated a committee to enquire into the cause of the great excess of expenditure in the Abyssinian war. The Volunteer encampment was opened at Wimbledon on the 3rd July. The Queen's prize was won by Angus Cameron of the Sixth Inverness Volunteers. His score was 71. The same gentleman won the prize before — in 1866. England won the international prize against Scotland and Ireland. Scotland won the Elcho Challenge shield— lreland second, England last. A grand review of volunteers is to be held at Wimbledon on the 17th. A meeting of the Bank of South Australia took place on the 29th June, when a dividend of ten per cent, was announced. The Australian and New Zealand Banks, with one exception, have agreed to adopt a re-exchange of ten per cent, on bills returned dishonored, instead of 20 per cent., as hifiherto. It was resolved that recommendations should be forwarded by the present mail for all colonial establishments to agree to a similar charge on bills returned from England. The Eton and Harrow cricket match was played on the 9th and 10th July. Eton won in one innings. The French Atlantic cable has been successfully laid between Brest and St. Pierre. A message was sent through to the Emperor of the French, announcing the completion of the enterprise thus far. A riot took place at Portadown, in County Armagh, on the Ist of July. The police fired on the mob with fatal effect. The estates of the Duke of Newcastle, including Clumber Park and the house in London, have been sold under proceedings in bankruptcy taken against him. Earl Killie has been elected a Scotch representative peer. The Government of Canada have agreed with the Hudson's Bay Company on terms of cession, whereby the latter cede their territory to the Dominion of Canada. By later cable, gold in New York is 136 f. A riot took place in New York on the 12th July. A procession of orangemen were attacked by a party of Catholics, and 30 persons injured. The obituary comprises Dr. Todd, Key. G. Gresswell, Sir W. A'Beckett, Sir William Bowles, X.C.8., Sir Arthur Rumboid Bart., Dr. Yearsley, William Jerdan, Lord Taunton, formerly Mr. Latouche. The Duke of Edinburgh has been appointed a K.C. of St. Michael and St. George. The Irish Church Bill was read a second time on the 18th June. Many amendments were moved in the House of Lords. The date of disestablishment wae altered to May 1871. The glebes in Ulster were granted to the clergy, and all the glebe houses in Ireland given to the church free of charge. They also propose i to endow the Catholic priests and Presbyterian ministers. The Bill was returned to the House of Commons last night, when Mr. Gladstone announced that he was resolved to reject nearly all the amendments made by the Lords. The Life Peerages Bill was rejected by the Lords on the Bth July. The Marquis of Hartington brought in a Bill empowering the Government to purchase the telegraph lines on the 3rd July. Sir George Grey and several late members of the Government of New Zealand have strongly protested against the treatment that dependency has received from the Colonial office. Mr. Bright and Mr. W. S. Foster have resigned their membership of the Reform Club in consequence of Mr. Smalley, of the New York Tribune, whom they had proposed, having been blackballed. The Lord Mayor gave his annual dinner to Ministers on the 9th July. The principal speeches were those of Mr. Gladstone, Lord Hatherey, and Mr. Bruce. Disturbances were expected in Ireland on the 12th July, but the Orange celebration that day passed off quietly, except at Belfast, where there was some rioting. The annual dinner of the Cobden Club was held at Greenwich on the 10th July. The Duke of Argyle presided. The Emperor of the French sent a message to the Corps Legislatif, granting various reforms ; in consequence of which M. Routier and the rest of the Ministry resigned.
