TAHITI.
ARRIVAL OF H.M.S. GALATEA AT PATEETE. By the arrival in harbour yesterday of the schooner Au Kevoir, Captain Chambers, we learn thatH.H.s.s. Galatea, Captain H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh, arrived from Papeete from this port on Saturday, June 19. Great preparations were being made for his Royal Highness's public reception, which was to take place on the following Tuesday [22nd], the day the Au Eevoir left for Auckland. Large numbers of natives were assembling at Papeete to take part in the festivities, arid the greatest possible excitement prevailed amongst all. The Governor of Tahiti was. expected to leave for Auckland in the schooner " Eugenic " immediately after the departure of the Duke of Edinburgh. The American man-of-war s.s. " Kearsage," the British barque "Oxley," the barque " Midas," and the schooner " Eugenic " were lying there when Capt. Chambers left. — Southern Cross, July 31.
