(FBOM OUB OVTS COBRESPO#pi}N_.) Monday, August 2. The Military Contribution Bill was passed on Friday without opposition. Mr. M'Lean's troops resolutions are positively to come on to-morrowi The Government are anxious for a decision of the House before the departure of the outgoing mail. The budget is to be debated on its weakest pomt — the duty on grain &c. It stands for consideration next to Mr. M'Lean's resolutions. The prisoners have been moved to the hulk City of Newcastle, which is moored under the guns of H.M.S. Challenger. A boarding party is kept ready on board, in case of alarm from the hulk. The 95 prisoners are guarded by 45 Ngatiporous. A European guard i 3 being organized. Mr. Booth starts northwards shortly, to bring in other prisoners who surrendered to the frieridlies. Gold quartz finds were again reported on Saturday, causing a perfect furore. It is difficult to say how far these reported finds have not been pickled and planted. Several more mining companies have been formed.
