Shipments of Gold fbom Auckland. — A few weeks ago we (Auckland Herald) published the customs return of gold shipped for the past twelvemonth, amountingto£l2B,oooozs. To-day wo aro enabled to furnish, our readers with the total amount of gold produced since tho banks wore estabhshod at this placo, i.e., from February, 1868, until the 30th of last month, and wo find it to bo 131,8280z5. This may bo taken to represent nearly tho entire produce of the field, although parcels wore lodged in tho Auckland banks even prior to that date, but thoy were principally from the famous Hunt's (Sliotovor) claim, respecting the wealth of which comment is neodlcss. Those figures show that nearly six tons of tho precious metal have already been produced from the place, although still in its infancy as a quartzreefing district, and appliances for saving the gold which are now almost daily improved upon. Tho above return, takon at tho low vnluo of £2 12s. 6d. an ounce, shows a total of £341,048 as tho produce of tho field during that period. There can be no doubt, uowevor, that even this does not represent tho actual yield, becauso the heavy duty demanded by the Government is a temptation to speculative individuals to sell their gold elsewhere, whilst a considerable amount of jewellery has boon manufactured out of Thames gold, upon which, no duty has been collected .by the customs.
