LOSS OF THE GRAYLING -STRAND-

(FfiOM A COBBESPOJJDENT.) The Grayling, cutter, is a total loss ': .supposed to have foundered afc sea a short distance to the northward of the Wairoa. The beach is scattered with wreck ; .the loss to the Wairoa storekeepers ariioutits to about £700 or £800. The master, and mate are lost (Andrew Schon and (Justavus Reichardts). Sehon is the third brother drowned upon this coast. The Hero had a very narrow escape ; she sprung her bowsprit, and was unable to work off the shore/ Her master (Campbell) beached her about . 200 yards to the northward of the mouth, of the river : sbe is safe, and can be easily brought over the sand spit and launched in the river. The whole of her cargo huS been got out of her ; it was damaged to some extent. The bulk of her cargb being beer and spirits, the loss is not very great.' The Murewai, which was off the land when the souther began to blow, there is ; _every reason to believe is safe ; she has, most., probably, succeeded in getting underi the lea of Long Point. It is a great pity this vessel has had to run away ; she had a large' quantity of Government stores from Poverty j Bay, and they are very much needed,, ( i. J No news from Herrick. He is a^hort of, provisions ; he has plenty of meat and. potatoes, but no groceries, ;;:Thel,hea#y floods in the viver will 'fender transport tOe the front very difficult.
