Good Pay.— lt is reported that Mdlle. Nilsson has concluded an engagement with an English concert Society upon the extraordinary terms of £8,000 for two months, two concerts per week ! Distbict PaizE Fieing.— The Otago Sim of the' 2nd inst. says : — The firing for the First District Colonial Prizes has been concluded, the six highest scores are given below. It will be seen that some excellent shooting has taken place, especially by the men who stand first and second on the list. The ranges were 300, 400, and 500 yards ; five shots at each range. The material appeared to be thoroughly dried, and in- much better condition than the first sample we noticed, and we trust it will maintain the character of the fibre as. a first-class article for the purpose. We hope, however, as we suggested a few; days ago, that some of our capitalists will take steps to render unnecessary in fiituie thje two-fold expense of its exportation in a raw state and its subsequent re-rim-poi'tation when manufactured, by organiseing a company for its conversion into, paper in our own country.— Southern GroW*
