A Stern Remepy. — Let every chief taken in battle during the present conflict be instantly tried by drum-head Courtmartial, hung up upon some commanding position in sight of tho enemy, and left there for their edification. A few examples of that kind would have the effect of saving many lives ancl confirming British supremacy over the nativo race. That was the kind of stern but virtually humane justice meted out to rebel leaders during the Indian mutiny. The sacrifice of a few lives saved thousands, and restored permanent peace to the millions in British India, who were then taught the supremacy of British power. — Wanganui Times.
