Hawke's Bay Herald SATURDAY, JANUARY 9, 1869.
On Thursday last we issued an "extra" containing all we could then gather of the great news received by the Sturt of the fall of Ngatepa, aud the all but total destruction of the baud of murderers who have so long infested the Poverty Bay District. Unfortunately their leader has, for the time being, escaped, but the pursuit was so general and energetic, that there was every probability of his being speedily captured. We congratulate the settlers and the country upon what has taken place. The fall of Ngatepa, following upon other successes of our troops, will set at rest, we hope, the question of peace or war in this parfc of the country. This news will do much towards restoring confidence ; let us hope that late successes will be vigorously followed up,
