The new floating Dock at Port Chalmers continues to be well patronised. Lately, a vessel of 629 tons was taken in and repaired. At present the New Zealand Company's steamer Wellington, although measuring about 12 feet longer than the dock, has been taken in successfully by the means of side gates padded to fit the model of the bow. The first attempt to get her high and dry was unsuccessful, owing to one of the gates bursting. Both gates were, however, strengthened, and by the energetic manner in which the dock proprietors, Messrs. Murray and Co., worked night and day, she was successfully raised high and dry by yesterday at noon. While in dock, she will be thoroughly cleaned — which is much wanted, inasmuch as clusters of mussels six or seven inches wide are attaohed to her bottom. After cleaning, she will be thoroughly coated with Borthwick's patent paint. — Advertiser. Ceicket ing. — We are glad to learn that some of the Wellington cricketers have arranged a match with the officers of the Charybdis. Judging from the admirable play exhibited by the naval knights of the willow in their late appearance against twenty-two of their own men, the landsmen will have enough to do to avoid defeat. The match is to take place on Saturday next, and the Wellington eleven is to be chosen from amongst the follc^igi players : — Lomax, Moore, MarchantrX: Waters, Salmon, Ollivier, Allen, S. Waters, Baker, Goring, Buck, Buchanan, and Harris. This list includes some well known cricketers, and should furnish an excellent team. The gentlemen we have named are requested to meet for practice on the ground at 5 o'clock this evening, after which the eleven will be finally chosen.— Advertiser.
