Armed Constabulary. — Sixteen men arrived by the Phoebe for this force. They are rather a fine looking lot, but they were not engaged at 4s. per diem. Major Lambert, the officer in command of the district, ordered these men to the Wairoa, whereupon somebody else in Wellington ordered them to remain. It is the same in everything — divided authority, one high official working against another. We understand that volunteers will now receive ss. a day, in lieu of 4s. Rifle Match. — We understand that the return match with the Petane Rifle Club will come off on Wednesday next, 7th inst., at 1 p.m., at the range of the Napier Club. Tenders are invited for making the uniform for the Havvke's Bay Yeomanry Cavalry. Major Lambert returned from Wairoa on Thursday evening. He has raised a small force there, and bas assisted the settlers in constructing a redoubt at Clyde, which is now nearly completed. He bas organised a small patrol to watch the movements of the ex-prisoners, and has promised if possible to send more men, that the Wairoa may be better prepared for any contingency that may arise. Mr. M 'Lean's Resolution.— The report in tbe Independent of the series of discussions upon this resolution is transferred entire to our columns this morning. It is of course only a summary — and not particularly clear as that — but it will serve to give our readers some idea of what took place. The insertion of so lengthened a report necessitates the exclusion of correspondence and other matter. Mr. Edward Lyndon will sell, this day, furniture, clothing, &c. Capt. Richardson. — We regret to learn that this gallant officer, upon arriving at Wanganui in the Sturt, sustained a full which broke some of bis rib?, and caused him to be conveyed to the Hospital. Death by Drowning. — On Thursday night, at Wairoa, a half caste named M'Kain, who had come on board tbe Hero in a state of intoxication, fell overboard during the nighfc, and, notwithstanding every effort umde to save him, was drowned. The body had not been recovered when the Hero left.
