Hawke's Bay Herald TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1868.

J. D. Ormond Esq. left Napier yesterday by steamer Wellington, he being desirous to be in his place in the House of Representatives during the delivery of the.financial statement, which is expected to be tomorrow. The Hawke's Bay Brewing Company, limited, has been duly registered, and now takes rank as a local industry. The share list is said to be pretty well filled up, and the company have bought land for the erection of premises in the vicinity of the artesian well, White road. Sir George Grey spent a few hours in Napier yesterday forenoon, he having been a passenger per Wellington for the south — on his way, it is understood, for England via Panama. Sir George looked better than we have seen him do for some time. We wish him a pleasant passage home, and a speedy return to the colony. Communication between Wairoa on the one hand and Taupo on the other, and Napier, has lately been organised by the Government, in order that, during the continuance of disturbances, full and reliable information may ba had regularly of the movements, if any, of hostile tribes. An orderly will arrive from Taupo once, and from Wairoa twice a week, so long as native affairs continue in their present unsettled state. Under such an arrangement as this, there is no possibility of any step being taken by any body of natives without the Government being fully and timeously informed of it. Wairoa. — The chief item of news from this district by yesterday's mail is that, on Thursday last, a scouting party, consisting of 30 natives under command of Lieutenant Sanders, left Clyde for the Ruaki Ture, the scene of the engagement between Colonel Whitmore and the ex-prisoners, with the view (1) of discovering whether the Hauhaus had, as was reported, made a stand at Puketapu, and (2) of obtaining, if possible, and decently interring, the remains of those who lost their lives in the action, and whose bodies were left on the field. The result is expected to reach Napier on Wednesday or Thursday next. The Waipawa Residents and Mr. Ormond. — At a meeting of the local committee, Waipawa, the following resolutions were recently passed: — '1. That the local committee desire to express their cordial thanss to Mr. Ormond for his persevering and successful exertions on behalf of those whom they represent in regard to the Waipawa telegraph station. 2. That the sentiments expressed by Mr. Ormond in his lucid and admirable speech on the policy of the government, relative to the great .question of the day, are for the most part endorsed by them, and justly entitle him to their fullest confidence and warmest support.
