LATEST FEOM THE WEST COAST.

(From the " Wanganui Times," August 11.) Oue latest advices from Patea are to Sunday forenoon. During last "week a selection of men for active service was made, and on Saturday night Colonel M'Donnell started for Waihi. Other arrangements have to be made there, and also at other outposts, but the commander of the force prudently declines giving any of our correspondents information as to his contemplated movements. One of them in a short note says : — " All I know is that we start to-night anxious for a fray. It is remarkable that Colonel M'Donnell makes all his important moves at dead of night. I will write when we reach Waihi." Another correspondent gives opinions as to probable movements, but we do not consider it advisable to publish opiuions just now, even should they turn out to be correct. It is enough to know that the force is not only on the alert but on a move in some direction. Our latter correspondent says :—Colonel M'Donnell has received a challenge from the Hau Haus, and started last night to fight it out. The correspondent who wrote a short note a few hours earlier does not mention it. All we assert as fact is that there has been a move forward. It is, however, worthy of remark that on Saturday afternoon, Captain William M'Donnell (whose wound is far from being healed, and who does not now belong to the Force), started from Wanganui for Waiki, determined to accompany his brother, and help him to " fight it out/
