Kangaroos. — A couple of kangaroos, one of which is young, have been imported to Canterbury from Tasmania. The Tasmanian bush kangaroo is, unlike its Australian namesake, considered a valuable animal, being very good eating, whilst its skin commands a high price and pro-: duces a largo annual revenue in Tasmania. From its habit of frequenting the bush, and its browsing propensity, this animal is no detriment to the agriculturist or the sheep farmer. The Italian Willow. — " Sir,— l am I sending a bundle of Italian willow cuttings to Mr. Eyley, socretary to the Acclimatisation Society. The twigs and smaller branches of this tree assume a most beautiful orango brown when the leaves fall off, and form a charming contrast amongst evergreens during the winter. The cuttings aro intended for members who choose to apply for them. — Land and Water. The Alpaca in Wellington.— The fate of the alpacas has boon sealed. Mr. Smith, yesterday, moved in tlie Council that they should be at once sold. Mr. Ludlam said that he did not think they could be sold, but at all events they should be got rid of. The Government might make a present of them to run on some shareholder's land, as they had proved a completo failure. Mr. Borlase said that tho Nelson. Acclimatization Society would be glad to get these alpacas, and give something moro suitable in exchange. Mr. Johnston said that the animals required a dry cold climate ; he was in favor of giving them a further trial in the Taupo country, where there were now some settlers, and' where the climate was exactly what was required. The motion of Mr. Smith, for selling the alpacas, was carried without a dissentient . voice. — Evening Post, June 10.
