Messages will be conveyed from Waipukurau, by way of Castle Point, to Wellington, and from Waipukurau, through Waipawa, to Napier, on the most reasonable terms and with the greatest rapidity. Also, from the stockade hill there is a splendid vietv of the oountry round— first, looking towards the south as far as the eye can reach, there is a beautiful flat country and low grasey hills ; there you will see the young lambs feeding beside their dams, and a good view of Arlington station and Woburn station, with the beautiful lake near it. Looking on your left hand, towards the west, you have a splendid view of the Ruataniwba plains and the snowy ranges ; then looking on your right hand, towards the east, you have a beautiful view of the high hills towards the ooast, with the low graasy hills beneath them, and a large extent of flat country under great farming improvements, and paddocks covered with verdant green. You have also a five view of the beautiful village of VVaipukurau, the lion, and his great castle. Then, looking straight before you, towards tho north, you can see tho river Tuki Tuki, with all its turnings and windings round the splendid bueh at Waipukurau j and, with the aid of a good glass, you can see the great town of Waipawa, where the rabbits and young leverets are peeping out of their huts, with tears in their eyes and faces as long as fiddle-strings, at the loss of the Telegraph Station. " O dear ! O dear ! what can the matter be, Johnny so long at the fair; he promised to get me the Telegraph Station ! " 262 ' THE LION.
