A Fenian Effusion. — Mr. D. M. Luckie, editor and proprietor of the Nelson Colonist, has received the following effusion from some " Patriotic Irishmen" : — " Nelson, 24 March, 1868. Sib,— This is to inform you that we hare perused some of the leading Articles of your Newspaper ( Colonist) and have detected in them a very Malignant Spirit displayed towards the Fenian cause, and in many cases a disregard for truth has been Manifested. We have Noticed that any news concerning Fenianism, you have enlarged upon and made it appear worse in a tenfold degree. Now you must understand, Mr. Babbler, that this City is not without some who are patriots of Ireland, and are at any time ready to resent such uncalled for remarks on fenianism as have appeared in your paper. We would also caution you Vagabond, for the future to be wary and more moderate in your remarks, or by Heaven ! Hascal and Crawler, we will have your " Rookery Crib" about your ears. We say again Beware ! " deceiver of the people" for we have the means at hand to accomplish our ends. We remain in earnest, — Patriotic leishmen." Fall of Niagara. — A speedy and mighty change in the character of the Niagara falls is looked for. It has long been known that beneath the hard limestone shelf over which the vast body of water passes there is a soft stratum of shale. The slow wearing away of the limestone gave a long lease of existence to the falls, but the lease is now threatened with a sudden termination by the certain indications in the currents obout' 800 yards above the Canadian falls, which show that the water has got at the sublying shale and is rapidly eating it away. Two remarkable effects are anticipated from this— the conversion ;of the falls into a rapid, thereby rendering the " shooting of Niagara" practicable ; and, secondly, the diverting of the entire body of water to the Canadian side, .the/United States being thus robbed of their, share of tlie mighty cataract by the Britishers .—fitomdwd.
