LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

The Editor does not hold himself responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents. Sin,— Might not the address which has been so skilfully got up, be taken up country, so that the loyal subjects of her Majesty there may sign it. There are many who would willingly go a mile or two for such a loyal purpose, but to go a greater distance would inconvenience many. I would suggest to our worthy Deputy-Superintendent that he should appoint some person to take the address on a tour through the province, so as to swell the number of signatures ; otherwise I fear the number will be but small. I hope your valuable journal will soon make known the route intended to be taken, and the time when the address may be seen. — I am, &c, Zealandia. Waitangi, April 22. Sic. — There are some cases in this province where land held by runholders adjoins land possessed by natives, the boundary between them extending for several miles in length, with no fence or any natural barrier, such as creek or gully, to prevent sheep straj'ing from the runholdcr's to the native's land. In these cases, it is almost impossible for the runh older to prevent his stock trespassing. In such cases, if the natives will neither fence their land nor yet lease it, either to the adjoining runholder or auy other party, except at a ruinous price, surely they ought not to have the power of impounding sheep that trespass. They not only watch opportunities to impound, but hold out ugly threats to the runholder in case of trespass. Can you inform me, Mr. Editor, whether, in such cases, the natives have the power of impounding ? If they have, I trust at the next sitting of Council something will be done towards putting a stop to such an evil. — I am, &c, A Victim. April 15, 1868.
