WAIPUKURAU RACES.

The Waipukurau race meeting is a failure, at least so far as carrying out the advertised programme is concerned. For the Maiden Plate there are only two subscribers, and for the Three-mile and Two-mile only one ; so that those races fall to the ground from not having the required number of subscribers, which is three. See rule VI, H.B. J.C. For the Scurry there are four entrances — Orlando, Numa, Black Boy, and Warren Hastings. The hack race -will probably find a large field. It is a pity, with so good a programme, that the meeting should not have found favor with the owners of horses. However, coming so closely after the Napier races and so shortly before the more attractive meetings at Wellington and Nelson, both of which will be favored by the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh, we can scarcely wonder at the partial failure. We would suggest a Free Handicap being got up, to fill up the day — leaving the entries open until 10 on the morning of the 17th. This, the Scurry, Hack Race, and Consolation Stakes, would make a very fair day's sport, and will no doubt afford amusement to the public, if not very profitable to the owners of horses.
