Hetuen of the Tuoops. — We have it upon good authority that there is not the slightest foundation for the report that two companies of the 18th Uoyal Irish will return to Wanganui. — Wanganui Evening flerald.
The Abeival of a numbee of Natives from the Chatham Islands. — On Friday last the Despatch, brigantine, from the Chatham Islands, bi'ought to our shore 120 natives and an immense quantity of goods and chattels, and property of all descriptions. The scene on the beach was very quiet, there being but little excitement on the part of the new coiners, and no very perceptible welcome to them on the part of the natives here. The enclosure by the side of the Native Office was the resting place for them during the morning of their arrival, and there, if anywhere, they received the congratulations of the Taranaki natives. We believe they have gone on to some land that belongs to the tribe past the Waitara. — TwanaU News, Januaiy 23.
