THE KARAKA GOLDFIELD.

[From the * Weekly Express,' October 12.] Additional machinery of sufficient power is now the great want at the Thames. A sample of quartz has been sent up from a new reef which is likely to turn out well, - and there is a line extending beyond the Kuranui, which promises to rival that famous reef. Hunt's claim is being still worked with good prospects, and gold will be sent up to Auckland in a few days. Campbell's party, who are working what • is called the " Foreigners' Claim," are getting some good quartz. The miner's rights issued now number more than 700, and there are daily additions made to the population. David Young • and party are said to have got a good show of gold on the Karaka, and Ninnis and Verran have been doing well in the same locality, but one of. the very best claims is said to be tbat of M'Cann and party, of the Kuranui, which is producing quartz of very beautiful and apparently great value. From day to day new reefs are being discovered, and in a short time there is every probability of a considerable amount of gold being brought to Auckland.
