THE MEANEE BRIDGE.
The Meanee Bridge, which Has been closed , to traffic since the floods, ;i?as re-opened on the evening of Wednesday last. Since the work of lengthening* the Bridge ; was cdtniv ; menced by Mr. Sigley, it has proceeded with great rapidity;, its completion, iwaasfK announced some days earlier than was generally expected^ The 'original 'structure has been .lengthened by, 64 feet, and a fresh r<_ approach made on the south side., It [is also intended, we believe, ;to pile -for some .l'U distance down the river on the same side, there being some fear that it may ! break/'' through in the direction of the ■■race^courjje,' ; should, something not be done to keep* it iii s ' '"'" the old channel. The opening' of the 1 Bridge will be felt as a boon by the Meanee - settlers, as well as by the people of Napier. It is really a fortunate thing that, at this time, we have amongst us so thoroughly practical a man as the contractor, Mr. Sigley. . . ; , V.V
