ARRIVAL OF THE PANAMA MAIL.

JprMieliord Ashley, which arrived on -Suadayiat 4 p.m., we have the Eng- ' Hsfc'inail via Pauama, which reached Wellington on the 25th ult. by the Ruahine. ; \ Wellington, Saturday, May 25. ,The : Panama Company's steamship Ruahine arrived at Wellington, from Panama, at 2 p.m., to-day, with English and American mails. Passengers for Wellington— . Messrs. Evans, Brooks, Nicholson, Rogan, and Cohenac. For Canterbury — Major Reader, Captain and Mrs, Jones, three children and servant, Mr, Jennings. For Qtago— Mrs. Maitland, Mr. and Mrs. D. Maitland, Mr. and Mrs. Pellans. For Sydney— Messrs. Amery, Eskell. For Melbourne-— Colonel Page, Mrs. Page, and , servant, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The Ruahine left Panama at midnight, on the 26th April, and experienced splendid weather until the 14th instant, since which time she has encountered head winds accompanied with heavy seas. The voyage from Wellington to Panama was exceedingly, tempestuous, and occupied the Ruahine thirty-nine days, twenty-one hours.* On the 10th March, she experienced a terrific gale, which lasted till the 18th, during which the ship was hove-to for forty-eight hours. On the 12th, when the gale was at its height, she carried away her jolly-boat. Panama was reached on 15 th April, and the mails and passengers were forwarded by steamer leaving Colon on the 23rd.
