Musical Entertainment. — We remind our readers of the musical entertaiment announced by Mr. Russell for to-morrow night, in the Council Chamber. The programme will be found among the advertisements in this morning's Herald. Colonial District Firing. — Notice is given in our advertising columns that the Colonial aud District prizes will shortly be contested for (of which early notice will be given), aud that Liout.-Colonel Whitmore requests intending competitors to prepare themselves by private practice. The Native Lands Court is intended to sit at Wairoa on the 15th February. The Southern Cross. — No copies of this journal have reached us by the " Star of the Evening" or other recent arrivals. We presume, therefore, that our contemporary, like the two metropolitan journals, have ceased to post their exchanges. St. Paul's Church. — A splendid new harmonium, purchased in London for the use of the congregation assembling iv this place of worship, has just arrived in Aucklaud per ship Electric. The Fall of Rain during last week must have been considerable. The Meanee river was higher than ifc has been for many a day — the water having been within four feet of the bank. Owing to the fresh, comparatively slight though it was, some two or three hundred posts have been washed clown the river and out to sea. The country must have been greatly benefited by so plenteous a rain at this season of the year. Last eveniug, a thunderstorm was experienced, which will doubtless have a salutary effect in cooling the air.
