Ngaruroro Bridge. — It will be seen from our advertising columns that tenders are called for the erection * of the bridge over the Ngarurpro. Tenders to be received up till Saturday, February 16. Map of Napier. — Our contemporary, who shews a courtesy not always displayed by one editor towards another, thus refers to the new map just published at this office : — " We have great pleasure in directing the attention of our readers and friends to an exceedingly neot and well-executed map of the Town of Napier, just published by our enterprising]! fellow-townsman, Mr. James Wood, proprietor of the 'Hawke's Bay Herald.' The map is drawn by Mr. A. Koch, and is indisputably worthy of the well-known skill and talent of that gentleman. The lithographic portion of the work has, we perceive, been performed by Lloyd and Wylie, lithographers, Welling fton. The map, as a whole, is decidedly one of the best specimens of lithography we have seen produced in the Colony ; and , we are proud to be able to say that such a work has been published in Napier. The want of such a map has been very greatly felt by the merchants and general public of the town ; and we venture to predict an extensive sale and all the encouragement merited by the spirited publisher." Novelty in Musical Instruments. — A novel article of luxury is shown by Mr. J. H. Anderson, 360 George-street Sydney, the exhibitor of the mechanical piano now daily attracting its crowd of listeners, and the price of which, by a slip of the pen, was set down in a previous article as 360 guineas instead of ISO guineas. Almost unattainable at the one price, the other brings it within the reach of many a country fa- „ mily who dearly love music and dancing, but whose limited acquirements and the scarcity of musicians make both difficult. to come at. But to return to this " novelty," It is a simple matter, costing, . we believe, when complete, only two guineas and a half, and it enables the pianist or organist, by touching a pedal, to make the leaf fly over in a second, the performer not losing a- note. . ■ . ' The Nelson Superintendence — Wej are on the eve of a contest for the election of Superintendent. Mr. Saunders will leave the province within three weeks' time, and we have now three candidates for the office. Mr. Blackett, who affirmatively responds to a requisition, signed by about ; three hundred and fifty electors, nearly two hundred more than ever appeared on a si- , • milar document presented by a Nelson constituency ; Mr. Oswald Curtis, who proffers his- services unsolicited, and Mr. Barriicbat who has twice formerly contested. the eiec- •. tion unsuccessfully, and who narrowly miss^,. Ed election on the. occasion of the last contest. We shall therefore be shortly in the thick of electioneering speeches, -and elec-. toral excitement.— Colonist.
