The river is now low, and the season favourable for prosecuting the work, which would, no doubt, be undertaken by contractors at a much less rate than in the autumn or winter, when the impedi___nt_* of floods, bad. weather, and high rate of wages for cold water work may reasonably be calculated upon., , But the one great reason of all why the bridge should at once be set about is, that the present means of transit across the river is uncertain, slow, dangerous, and. inadequate to the requirements of the province.
