Herd Book. — Volume 1 of the New Zealand Herd Book, edited by LieutColonel Whitmore, is now ia the press and will shortly be published. Cricket Match. — We learn that a cricket match will take place on Saturday next, at Greenmeadows, between Napier men and the players of the 12th regiment. The wickets will be pitched at 11 o'clock. The English Mail, via Suez, arrived at the Bluff on the 17th inst. The telegrams, which appear elsewhere, do not indicate any point of special interest. The mail was expected to reach Wellington on Sunday last, 20th inst. The Wellington, with the Hawke's Bay portion, is due in Napier to-morrow. His Honor the Superintendent has gone to Otago, but his stay there will not be prolonged. The Electoral Rolls are " being revised with all expedition, and, immediately upon their completion, writs will be issued for a general election. Before long, therefore, local politics will have renewed interest attached to them. The Panama steamer, the Kaikoura, takes her departure next time, on the 6th instead of the Bth prox., in consequence, we presume, of February being a short month. Supreme Court; — As His Honor Mr. Justice Johnston will not arrive in Napier till the 2nd inst., the court will sit, for civil and criminal business, on the 4th prox., instead of the Ist, as originally announced ; the minor sittings and sittings under the Debtor and Creditor's Act, on the 6th instead of the sth ; and sittings in Banco on the 7th instead of the 6th. The notices, as thus amended, will be found in our advertising columns. Wairoa. — Our correspondent makes no meution of the rumoured resistance to the surveys going on in that district, so there cannot have beeu very much in it.
