Sporting Feat. — Mr. F. D. Hamilton, of sporting notoriety, has been attempting what he calls the "Marquis of "Warterford's feat," on the stage of the Hokitika theatre, • consisting of leaping a horse over a five barred gate. The horse however proved a bungler, and the attempted leap was unsuccessful. Mr. Hamilton has, however undertaken to repeat the feat with a better horse. Death or Mns. Duncan. — A telegram from X '.-on was received yestei'day from E. J. Duncan, Esq., Manager of tho N.Z.S.N". Co., announcing the death of his witc thei'e thnt morning. The deceased lady had been in weak health for some time, and a fortnight ago was sent to kelson, in the hope that change of air might have a beneficial effect. Mr. Duncan recently went to Nelson, and returned, hoping for ♦ the best ; bub a telegram received on Mon- , day, conveyed the intelligence that his wife was worse. He at once went across in the Taranaki, and reached kelson in time to soothe the last hours of the dying sufferer. We can but express our heartfelt sympathy, with an esteemed personal friend, ia this, his hour of affliction. — Independent, Dec.
