Stamps. —ln our notice, on Saturday, of the state to which this province was reduced through the failure of supplies of the descriptions wanted in common use, we mentioned that a fresh consignment might be expected by the steamer clue on the 23rd inst. We now learn that, by -^ Star of the South, a letter was forwarded by the Registrar of Deeds to the Stamp Department, Wellington, via Lyttelton, setting forth the state of the case and suggesting the possibility of a quantity to satisfy immediate wants being forwarded via the West Coast and Manakau, so as to catch the steamer which leaves Auckland for Napier on the 13th inst. District Court. —This court, in its civil' jurisdiction, was opened on Saturday last before His Honor Mr. C. D. R. Ward. As mentioned in our last, the only case set down for hearing was that of Bousfield v. Alley. The jury, after evidence had been given on both sides, gave a verdict for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, £49 14s. 3d., and costs. The court was then adjourned. Hawke's Bay Philharmonic Society. — It will be seen from our advertising columns, that the next concert of the above society will be held on Thursday, the 17th inst. The Artesian Well at Meanee, has. we regret to learn, been stopped for want of piping. It was quite understood that a sufficient quantity was in store at Napier, but this proves to have been delusive. It will be seen that Mr. Bennett is advertising for contracts for other wells. Erratum. —ln Mr. Hill's advertisement of sheep for sale, the word " selling," as applied to the original stock, should have been " letting." The error is now rectified.
