Foot Race. — On Saturday afternoon a foot race for 400 yards between Privates Blake and Clancey, of the 70th Regiment, came ofi in Tennyson street. The start was effected from Irvine's corner, and the running was beautiful for 150 yards, after which Clancey drew ahead and ultimately came in a winner by 10 or 12 . yards. Great interest was taken in the event. The Seventieth, we regret to say, are ex-pecting-fehc route in a few days. Their piace will be supplied by the 12th. A large number of men of the 70th have applied for and are likely to receive their discharges, and the local government, we understand, has promised them work to begin with, by way of encouraging the settlement in this place of men who have proved themselves so steady and so well conducted. East Coast. — We perceive that, by an Order in Council, from and after the first of, December next no goods whatever shall be carried, coastwise from any part of New Zealand to any part of the East Coast, situate between the South Head of Tauranga Harbour in the Bay of Plenty, and Table Cape.
